On special ships being German or whatever... if you want it to be core, they MUST start the game (1st scenario) as core... if you add "German"
French battleships in a later scenario, they'll only be Auxiliary at best.

I do remember it completely ruins 3-sided scenarios and at the very least, it messes with victory hexes and the like (you need to reset them whenever you swap maps) in two-sided scenarios. If the map is a differant size (x/y coordinates) it can affect starting positions, depending on where the new hex rows and columns were added.
One can do it -I just did! I edited the Coronet map to actually make the port of Nagoya (objective on lower left corner of map) accessible by ships now, added some fort hexes, and reloaded the map back into that 3-sided scenario and it works! I also added fortification hexes and another port hex for Shanghai (adjacent to the Yangtze as it's supposed to be) in the EWR China scen , and that one also reloaded successfully. I havent had the problem with VH's either...
Problems would likely ensue from changing the actual map dimensions, and maybe.... messing with 3rd party objective hexes -dunno.
